Claiming the Federal Home EV Charger Tax Credit (updated Nov. 2025):
- If you are installing a home EV charging station, the tax credit is 30% of the hardware and installation costs, up to $1000.
- Tax credit must be claimed before June 30, 2026!

- Until 2032, federal tax credits are available to consumers, fleets, businesses, and tax-exempt entities investing in new, used, and commercial clean vehicles--including all-electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs), fuel cell EVs (FCEVs), and EV charging infrastructure through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and implemented by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
ORIGINAL CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE INCENTIVE STATEMENT:
- Learn how consumers, fleets/businesses, and tax-exempt entities can receive alternative fuel infrastructure tax credits for installing EV charging equipment, including bidirectional charging equipment.
- If you purchase EV charging equipment for your principal residence, you may be eligible for a tax credit for the charging station. This credit is 30% of the cost of 1) the EV charging port, 2) components and parts that are essential to the operation of the charging port, and 3) labor for constructing and installing the charger, up to $1,000. A credit in the same amount is also available for energy storage associated with the home charger.
- Eligibility is based on the installation location being in an eligible census tract.

- The EV Charger tax credit is here (at least for a little while longer) thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed by the Biden administration.
- While the EV Vehicle tax credit has been eliminated under the current Trump administration as of Sept. 30, the EV Charger tax credit now faces a hard deadline.
- Due to President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" enacted in July 2025, the EV Charger tax credit will officially expire on June 30, 2026.
- If you are in the market for a new EV charger and hope to take advantage of the tax credit, it may be wise to act soon!
